Doctor's Office Round 2: Is our baby the Tin-Man?

Visit number two went surprisingly smooth. We had a quick meeting with the OBGYN to see if there was ANYTHING that could nip this morning sickness in the butt.  The doctor ended up prescribing another medication, which turns out doubles as a sleeping aid. Two thumbs up from Katy :)

Next on the list... Katy and I were actually going to get to hear the heartbeat for the very first time... or so we thought. After two minutes of running the Mini-Doppler over the jelly-belly... no sound. NO SOUND? Not to worry, the doctor assured us everything was OK.

Typically there wouldn't be another ultra-sound at this stage in the pregnancy.  We were able to get another sneak peak as they wanted to get an actual visual of a healthy heartbeat. Indeed it was healthy at 169 beats per minute. There is a wives tale going around that fast heart rates = baby girl. Who knows? All we knew after checking out our newborn is that it wasn't afraid to strike a pose. Hiccups, hands in the air, wiggling and bouncing...It's a busy body.

Katy has neither gained nor lost any weight and is as healthy as a horse. Her taste buds are branching out to more sophisticated meals including, Campbell's Soup, Pizza (light sauce), and even Salmon!!! Her down time consists of good flicks on HBO, college football, and an occasional Hell's Kitchen (when I'm home). She's been a trooper so far. Katy is going to hold off on joining in  P90X at least until the second trimester.

Love you all! More photos are soon to come!!! Come visit us in Boise. Our doors are open!

DAD

Father...

Dad...

Now those are some names to chew on. If feels like just yesterday I was getting used to Katy calling me her fiance and then husband.  Now, in just a few short months we get to add another name to the table...Dad. No way. When did this happen? I'm going to be a father already? It's funny to look back and realize my parents were younger than I am when they had me.  Going through a few family photos this afternoon only left me with only one thought....  Son or daughter, I can't wait to be.... a Dad.

Doctor's Visit #1: Is this for real?

Katy and I had our first doctor's visit this afternoon. Session one began with a simple question and answer session. What can you eat, not eat, drink or not drink, medical history, etc. We found that Katy is as healthy as can be and is allowed a caffeinated beverage once in a great while. She doesn't have to give up her green tea!

After our meeting with the OBGYN it was off to the Ultra Sound Lab. Unfortunately at this stage in the pregnancy jelly on the belly did not give us a clear enough picture. However, with a few other techniques and a magic wand, out of nowhere came this beautiful shot of Baby Cornett.

The baby is now roughly the size of a quarter. Given its size, they determined that Katy is 8 weeks and 5 days along. Moving from right to left, it has two arms that you can see just below the head, a little stomach, and two stubby feet below that.  The baby was wiggling with joy and you could even see its heart beat. The little round circle below the baby is called the yolk sac. This is where the baby draws nutrients from in its first weeks.

Blood work was are final stop for the visit. A few vials full and we were off on our way.Our next doctors visit is September 29th. We will keep you posted...
