All I want for Christmas is... a healthy 8 month old!

My sweet baby girl turns 8 months old in 2 days.  I remember this time last year I was about 23 weeks pregnant or so.  I remember thinking "this time next year we are going to have a baby to share Christmas with."  It is amazing how much your life can change in just 1 year... or 8 months even!  Ellie has blossomed into this amazing little girl.  I think I say this in EVERY blog.... BUT, she has the most personality, and she is ALWAYS making me smile and laugh.  I am so fortuante to be able to stay home with her and watch her grow.  It is the greatest blessing. 

Some fun new Ellie facts are:

Every morning when she wakes up, she shouts "Mama, Mama, Mama."  As much as I want to just keep sleeping, I can't resist that sweet little voice calling for me.

Lunch time is her favorite meal.  She enjoys breakfast and dinner too, but she is always ready for lunch and gobbles everything up like it's nobody's business.  At breakfast and dinner time, she takes her time eating :)

Paper, remote controls, cell phones, anything that doesn't belong to her are her favorite "toys" to play with.  When I get ready in the morning, I usually distract her with a belt or glasses case (not even joking), she stays pretty busy with those.  She likes her own toys too... but glasses cases, and paper are just so much more fun! LOL

I thought crawling was going to be a challenge for her.  She showed NO interest in it, and then one day (a few weeks ago)... just out of the blue she started to crawl.  I really, really, need to get the house baby proofed. 

We have our Christmas tree up and several presents under the tree, Ellie LOVES presents, especially the ribbon. 

Her sippy cup is always filled with water or juice, and she loves it.  Forget the bottle... sippy cups are for big girls :)  She hasn't taken a bottle since she was 4 months or so....  We've survived without one so far! 

I was so grateful when she would take a pacifier (when I needed a break, if you know what I mean...), she stopped taking a pacifier around the time she stopped taking a bottle.  She just plays with it if you give her one.  Since she was about 3 months she was able to take her pacifier out and put it back in her mouth...  (One less thing I have to ween her from, YAY!)

Speaking of which... she puts EVERYTHING in her mouth.  Today, she found a dime on the floor, I got to her before she put it in her mouth... and boy did that scare the crap out of me!

Bath time is one of her favorite times of day.  She loves to splash around, and play with her bath toys. 

Bedtime has been very enjoyable for us.  Ellie knows when it is bedtime, and she doesn't fight me.  If only I can get her to sleep longer than 5 hours at a time.  I have tried EVERYTHING.... I just don't know how to get her to sleep all night.

7 months old!

Ellie bellie turned 7 months old today!  She has so much personality and such a sweet spirit.  She is always doing something to make me smile and laugh.  We have been so blessed to call her our baby girl.  Time goes by so fast.  Sometimes I wish time would slow down, and other days I just can't wait to see what new thing she learns!  For her 6 month checkup a couple weeks ago she weighed 16 lbs 4 oz and 26 1/2 inches long.  She couldn't be any more perfect.  Healthy and happy as can be!  The next time we go to the doctor for a checkup she will be a year old.  (They typically don't go in at 9 months, unless there is an issue). 

Ellie has been doing so well eating her solids.  It took a while for her to get use to the texture and taste of everything, but now she eats everything we give her.  She likes bananas, apples, pears, peas, green beans, carrots, oatmeal, and rice cereal.  She will have oatmeal and some kind of fruit in the mornings for breakfast, for lunch she has fruit mixed with vegetables, and for dinner she will have fruit, veggies, and rice cereal.  I haven't introduced meats yet.  I am going to introduce them this week though... so we will see how that goes. 

Ellie still doesn't take a bottle.  I actually haven't tried giving her one in a long time.  She loves her sippy cup though.  Ellie doesn't drink a lot from it.... but she likes to hold it and put it in her mouth by herself.  I give her juice or water to drink in her sippy cup.  There hasn't been a situation where I've needed to leave her for a long period of time, so I haven't needed her to take a bottle.  I have my bible study on Tuesday mornings for 2 hours.  She usually stays home with dad or grandma.  I make sure she eats a good breakfast, and I will nurse her before I go.  It's nice that she eats solids now, that helps with the no bottle issue. 

Ellie has 2 bottom teeth.  They are still making their way up... but you can see them and they hurt when she bites :)  For the most part, she has done well with teething.  She gets fussy occasionally, but for the most part she is a total trooper.

Ellie sits up all by herself now.  She has been doing it for a few weeks.  She can play on the floor with her toys.  She also does a really good job of sitting up on her own (laying on her back and sitting up on her own).  She isn't crawling quite yet... but I have no doubt that will be the next big thing she figures out.  She can move back and forth on her hands knees, but no crawling yet.  Ellie loves to scream every time I leave the room.  She must think I'm never coming back, but I always do ;)  It's just one of those phases.

I can't believe how much I love this little girl.  She brings so much joy to my life, and Kenton's as well.   

Happy 6 month birthday!!!!

Six months ago, at just about this time, I saw my precious baby girl for the first time.  At that moment our lives changed forever.  Ellie has so much energy and personality these days.  She says mama mama mama all the time.  I don't think she knows what "mama" means, but hey... I'll take it!!!  Right now she is bouncing up and down in her baby einstein exersaucer.  That was one of the best things we've gotten for her.... it keeps her entertained for a while.... well long enough for me to write a blog, or cook dinner.  It is so fun to watch her explore new things.  She has been sipping juice from her sippy cup lately, and likes to take the spoon out of my hand when I'm feeding her because she likes to do it herself.  Her laugh is contagious.  It makes me heart melt when I hear that sweet sound of laughter come from her. 

Ellie is getting a lot more hair these days.  She still has a pretty thick "mohawk," but blonde hair is coming in all over her head.  We've been so blessed to have a blonde hair blue eyed beauty.  

Kenton got me an early birthday gift.  He got me a brand new video camera!!!!!!  It is sooo nice.  I am so excited to record Ellie's milestones, and special events.  Thank you Kenton!!!

Ellie update!

Wow... I can't believe it's been more than a month since my last blog post.  This little girl keeps me BUSY!!  Ellie loves life so much and has soooo much personality already.  She is always movin and groovin, unless it's nap time or bed time... and she will let you know!  I tell people that she is a GREAT baby, but not necessarily an easy baby!  She knows what she wants, when she wants it, and how to get it!  I CANNOT get enough of her.  I honestly don't know what I would do without her, and I don't want to know either!  The last five and a half months have gone by so fast.  I am sooooo thankful that I am able to stay home with her to watch her grow.  Every day is a new adventure, and it fills my heart with so much joy to be able to experience every second of it! 

Kenton and I have been incredibly blessed!  He can't get enough of his baby girl.  Every day he says.... "gosh, isn't she the most beautiful baby you've ever seen?"  Of course I agree with him!!  Ellie loves loves loves her daddy more than anything.  It is so sweet to see her get excited to see him when he gets home from work.  They have Ellie and daddy time in the evenings, and on Tuesday mornings when I have my Bible study at church (if I don't bring her with me).  We are looking forward to the years ahead, but are treasuring every moment until those years come. 

Some fun facts about Ellie:
- She is eating her cereal every night now.  She does really really well with it.  We've added applesauce and banana's as well.  She is still getting used to those :)
- Ellie has to sleep on her side or her stomach.
- She rolls all over the place.
- She can sit up by herself... we have to be next to her, but she is doing really well. 
- She puts EVERYTHING in her mouth.  Anything she can get her hand on. 
- She loves baths, and likes to swim in the bath tub.
- She likes to touch Max (the dog)... and he usually lets her.  He ignores her most of the time, it's pretty funny.
- Ellie loves her baby einstein exersaucer.  It plays music and there are so many toys for her to touch.
- She is on a very good schedule. 
- She falls asleep in her car seat all the time. 

Ellie is just a sweet sweet sweet baby.  We love her more than anything and couldn't ask for anything more!

4 month checkup!

Yesterday, Ellie had her 4 month doctor checkup.  She weighs 14 lbs. 6 oz and is 25 1/4 in long.  Her head circumference is 41 cm.  Her weight and head circumference are in the 55th percentile, and her height (length) is in the 75th.  She is growing so much, hardly fits into her 3-6 month clothes.  Most of her pants go almost up to her knees :)  She is starting to mostly wear 6 month sizes.  It's so crazy how much she has grown since she was born.  She started out just a tiny little baby girl!

Ellie drools nonstop!  She has always been a slobbery girl, but I think now she might be teething soon... maybe.  Only time will tell!  The doctor said we can start her on solids if we want.  Last night I tried giving her some rice cereal... and she spit most of it out, but it was a fun new adventure for both of us!

Along with her doctors appointment came the dreaded shots!  Ellie surprisingly did very well!!!  She cried for just a few seconds and then was smiling at daddy moments later.  What I strong little girl I have.  I did better this time too, no tears.  It was still hard to watch her go through pain. 

Ellie is rolling all over the place, her doctor even witnessed it.  She is a pro at going from back to front, which is normally harder for most babies, and she is getting a lot better at going from front to back, which is typically easier.  I have to be so careful now, she almost rolled off the bed the other day.  I had my back turned for 5 seconds and all of a sudden I had to jump across the bed to grab her before she fell off.

The last month or so, Ellie has had a hard time sleeping through the night.  I think it's a combination of a few things.  First of all, I think she is just going through a growth spurt.  She has grown so much lately, and eats all the time.  Second of all, she just wants to be with me.  The doctor told me that that's probably the main reason.  I am trying to do better at letting her "cry it out," and last night she only needed to feed 1 time... which was awesome!!  It's not uncommon for babies to sleep really well through the night at 2 months, and then not very well around 3 or 4 months, at least that is reassuring.

Ellie, my mom, and I are going to Ohio in September, and I am a little nervous about taking Ellie on an airplane.  Her doctor gave me a few tips that might help, so I am hoping they do! 

I am such a lucky momma to have the most precious baby girl in the whole world!  I love her so much!

   

Ellie and her cousin Cassidy!

This last weekend, Ellie had the wonderful opportunity to meet her cousin (my sweet little niece) Cassidy!  For Kenton's birthday his family came to Boise for a visit.  We visited the Old Penitentiary and the Zoo!  It was so much fun.  We got some cute pictures of the girls together.  Here is one of my favorites!  I will have to post more as soon as possible.  Cassidy is on the left and Ellie is on the right.  Ellie is older by 2 months and 3 days.

Ellie will be 4 months old this Saturday.  I just can't believe how big she is getting.  Every day there is something new that she can do!  We go back to the doctor in just a few short weeks.  At that appointment she will get another round of vaccines, and see how much she weighs :)  They will also let us know when a good time is for us to start her on solids!

Ellie has been rolling over a lot.  She can roll from her back to her belly, but hasn't quite figured out how to move from belly to back.  She isn't a big fan of being on her belly yet... I haven't figured out why.  She is the strongest baby though.  Everyone that holds her tells us how strong she is for being 3 months old.  She can stand up while holding onto our hands.  She is going to start crawling and walking, and talking before we know it ;)  Ellie loves to talk, and knows how to get our attention!  She has definitely figured out how to get her way.  I agree with the saying, you can't spoil a baby too much.  They need as much love as you can give them... and Ellie gets more love than she can even imagine :) 

She has a few favorite toys that she likes to play with.  The ones she likes are very colorful and provide a lot of entertainment.  Ellie has recently quit taking a bottle.  She doesn't want anything to do with them... she just wants momma.  I love that!  It can be difficult though, especially when I need to leave her for a bit.  I was at the doctors last week, her and my mom came along... but they waited for me in the waiting room.  She started to get hungry, and would not take a bottle.... so she just cried until I got back.  Same thing happened when I went to the store, and during church!  Oh well, she will learn!!!

Kenton's birthday is coming up on the 15th.  His family is coming for a visit, which I am very excited about!  Grandma Peggy and Papa Skip, Aunt Kristen and Uncle David, and my little niece Cassidy are all coming!!!  I am so excited to finally meet Cassidy, and Ellie is excited to meet her cousin!!!!

My favorite little girl!

Ellie turned 15 weeks on Wednesday.  I can't believe almost 4 months have gone by since she came out of me.  Boy, time sure does fly by.  She has been the greatest blessing any momma could ever ask for.  I was looking through my old blog posts a few days ago.  It is really fun to look back from where it all started.  I remember thinking that nausea and vomiting would NEVER go away, and also thinking "this baby better be worth it."  LOL.... I would EASILY suffer through months of sickness to get my precious baby girl!! No questions asked.  :) Hopefully with our next kid it wont be so bad, but if it is... its soooo worth it!

Some new things that have gone on in the day and life of Ellie are:

- She grabs things with her left hand... she might be a lefty????
- On average, she goes through about 3-4 outfits a day.  (She is in her 2nd one so far today... gotta love blow outs! and the occasional spit up)
- She laughs when you blow on her belly, and kiss her neck.
- Her underarms are ticklish :)
- She loves her crib... and sleeps through the night every night, (well for the most part... last night she got up once).
- She is fitting into 6 month clothes... mainly jammies.
- She has a blocked tear duct that should clear up sometime in between 6-12 months.
- She is a morning baby!!! She is in the BEST mood in the morning, always smiling!
- Her hair is growing a lot... getting blonder everyday.
- Still has bright blue eyes.
- She loves baths! and story time.... her recent favorite book is Dr. Seuss "The Book of Noses" 
- Her and Max (the dog) get along really well, he LOVES her. 
- She is the queen of fighting sleep.... sometimes it takes an hour for her to fall asleep.  She just loves all her surroundings! 
- She loves all her blankies... one of her favorites is one that Papa Winters got her in London.. at Harrods (an extremely fancy store).  It is nice and soft, and white.  It looks a lot like my favorite blanket when I was a baby. 
- She loves being outside.  I think its the noise, and fresh air.
- She talks all the time.  When we eat out, she talks really really loud... it's fun!  LOL

Ellie is so much fun, and such a blessing to our lives.  I really don't know what I would do without her.  My life has changed so much, but all for the better!

3 month old Love Bug

Hey All!  I can't believe how big my little girl is getting.  She turned 14 weeks today!!!  We went to the doctor on Monday (she has an infected tear duct), and she now weighs 12 lbs 12 oz.  Such a growing baby girl.  She is the most beautiful baby, and she gets more beautiful everyday... I didn't think it was possible :)  She has almost grown out of her 3 month clothes, I need to get out the 6th month clothes really soon. 

I'm slowly, but surely trying to get her to sleep in her big girl bed (crib).  She is nearly too big for her bassinet.  I think its harder on me than it is on her.  She naps really well in her crib during the day, and sleeps pretty well in the crib at night.  She was sleeping through the night so well, but the last few weeks she has been getting up every 3 hours or so.  I'm pretty sure she is just going through a growth spurt.  When she wakes up at night, I'll nurse her and she will go right back asleep.  I try and nap with her during the day, so I'm really not loosing a whole lot of sleep :) 

Ellie is really starting to love her toys, and she is starting to put everything in her mouth.  She loves to talk, and she loves to talk really loud!  It wont be long before she starts crawling!  She will love crawling, once she figures out how to. 

Ellie still has beautiful blue eyes, and she has started to grow some blonde hair.  She is just gorgeous!  We just love her so much.  We enjoy every minute we can with her, she is growing up too fast for mommy and daddy.

I will try to do a better job with blog posts.  We stay very busy, so whenever I have a free minute I try to write something.  We hope everyone is doing well.  Love you all very much.  Enjoy the pics!

Ellie Bellie- 10 weeks

Hey all!  My precious little girl is 10 weeks old... she will be 11 weeks on Wednesday.  She is growing so much every day and getting more and more of a personality.  Ellie is THE sweetest baby girl.  She is always making us smile and laugh.  She is a total momma's girl, she smiles for momma all the time!!! She loves to talk too.  We have pretty good conversations all the time!  I just love her so much. 

So much has changed since she was first born.  Ellie loves her swing now, I usually put her in it while I'm cooking dinner, or doing dishes or something like that.  It swings both ways, side to side and front to back.  She likes to do both.  Her swing also plays music, and makes farm sounds.  She definitely stays entertained.  She doesn't mind her car seat, and she LOVES to go on walks.  The past few weeks she has slept in her bassinet, and has done really really well.  She slept in her "rock and play sleeper" for the first 7 weeks, because she didn't like her bassinet at all.  Now she doesn't mind it, and sleeps through the night! 

Ellie has a pretty good routine down.  She takes a morning nap, afternoon nap, and sometimes an evening nap... depending on how well she slept during the day.  In between her naps we like to play.  We do tummy time everyday, and most of the time, she doesn't seem to mind it.  She is getting so strong!!!  She is a precious growing girl. 

We went to the doctor a couple weeks ago for a checkup and to get some shots.  I can safely say that I am NOT going to enjoy shot days.  It was sooooo sad.  Of course I cried right along with her as she got her shots.  Later that day, she was hurting so much.  I gave her some Tylenol, and we just cuddled on my bed.  Other than the shots, her doctors appointment went really well.  She weighed 10 lbs 14 oz and was 22 1/2 in long.  She is in the 48th percentile for weight and 50th for length.  She takes after her daddy, and is in the 75th percentile for head circumference :) 

Ellie has many nick names that we like to call her.  Ellie bellie, stinker girl, love bug, precious angel... my mom aka Nanny, likes to call her Ellie Belle, or Eller Belle, or Eller Beller, lol.  She is getting more and more hair, which I'm pretty sure will be blonde.  She still has blue eyes, and they are absolutely beautiful.  I'm hoping they don't change.  Neither Kenton or I have blue eyes, but we have them in our family... so we will see. 

I can't think of anything else I should tell you.  Our lives have changed so much over the past couple months, and I wouldn't change it for the world.  It has been a fun adventure so far and I can't wait for the rest of it! 

On a sadder note, last week was a very sad week for our family.  We lost my grandmother very unexpectedly.  Ellie would have LOVED her great grandma and it makes me very sad that she will never meet her.  My grandma is in heaven right now, and that brings us a lot of peace.  Please keep our family in your prayers!

7 weeks old

It's so hard to believe that our little Ellie is 7 weeks old today!  These last 7 weeks have gone by so fast.  Every day is a pretty basic routine.  Ellie has been sleeping through the night these last few days, which is AWESOME!!!  She goes to bed around 9:30 pm and wakes up around 5:30 or 6:00 in the morning to get her diaper changed and to eat.  After she eats, she stays awake for about an hour and then goes back to sleep.  She will sleep till about 10:00 or so.  When we wake up, I change her, get her dressed, and feed her.  Then we hang out for a couple hours.  Around 2:00 or so, she will take a nap... this is around the time I get chores done, or go run errands if I need to.  About 4:30/5:00 she will eat.  Depending on what day it is she gets her bath around 7:00.  She hated her bath at first... but now she LOVES it!!  In the evening we like to hang out as a family.  Kenton gets home from work around 6:00 pm, and when daddy is home it's play time :)  She eats around 7:00/7:30... then again around 9:00.  She usually falls asleep around 9:30 when she is nursing.  And that is pretty much how our days go!  I love having my sister home to help out.  It is so nice to b able to take a shower, and eat when I need to.  It was VERY hard when I didn't have help.  I managed (obviously), but it was definitely a challenge. 

I had my 6 week check up last week, and everything looks great.  I can pretty much do whatever I want.  I still like to take it easy, but for having a c section, I'm doing very well!  Nursing has gotten a lot better.  Whoever says "just get passed the first 2 weeks and you'll be just fine" is LYING.  Lets not kid ourselves, it takes more like 6-8 weeks.  After having mastitis twice now, I think things are going much better.  By the way, mastitis is an infection of the milk ducts.  It hurts like a mother, you have a fever, and it pretty much feels like you have the flu.  It's not easy to take care of a baby when you have it, in fact it's very hard!

Kenton has been doing very well.  He is still working away at Target.  He has been studying very hard so he can eventually have his health and life insurance license.  He wants to become the next Dave Ramsey :)  I am so proud of him, and very fortunate to have him as my husband and Ellie's daddy.  Speaking of which, she is a TOTAL daddy's girl.  Kenton makes her laugh and smile all the time.  It's so sweet :)  Today is Kenton's day off, so Ellie is hanging out with him right now.

Ellie Kathleen

So I am finally writing a blog.  Ellie is sleeping, and I should be... BUT I decided to go ahead a write one really quick.  It's very hard to find time to do things anymore, but I love Ellie Kathleen so much!

I can't believe my little baby girl will be 5 weeks old on Wednesday!  It has gone by so fast, and it has been one heck of an adventure so far.  Motherhood is absolutely amazing, and yet very challenging.  I knew it would be hard, but it is one of those things you have to experience for yourself.  We've started to get a pretty good routine down.  Ellie's days consists mainly of sleeping, eating, crying, and going potty.  She has pretty much outgrown newborn size diapers, and a few of her newborn clothes.  She is growing so much everyday!!!  Despite the challenges of being a new mommy, it really is the most wonderful feeling in the world!  Ellie brings sooooo much joy to our lives.  She is the most beautiful baby girl.  I don't know what I would do without her. 

Kenton has been an amazing daddy so far.  He has had one night of dad duty while I was feeling sick.  He did a great job!  Every day when he comes home from work I give him Ellie, and I go take my bath.... its very important to have some alone time!!!  Ellie just loves her daddy.  She likes to touch his face, and smiles whenever he holds her.  I can safely say that she is a daddy's girl.  She loves her mama just as much though, don't you worry ;) 

I've been meaning to post my birth story... here it is.

Lets see, where to begin.  I was induced because Ellie was a week overdue.  I would have LOVED to experience going into labor on my own, but God had a different plan for us.  I got to the hospital the morning of April 13.  I was induced right around 8:00 am.  They started my IV, got the pitocin going, and my doctor broke my water.  When my doctor broke my water, there was hardly any fluid that came out, and when I started having contractions, Ellie did not do very well, her heart rate would drop with every contraction.    Right away, they put me on oxygen, lowered the dosage of pitocin, and did an amnioinfusion (insert water back up into my uterus) to help with cord compression, and to see if Ellie's heart rate would improve.  After a while, things were somewhat back to normal.  Ellie was doing much better with the contractions and labor was progressing like it should. 

After a few hours of very painful contractions I decided I wanted an epidural.  I think I could have gone without it, but I wanted to enjoy the experience of labor, so I made the decision to go ahead and get the epidural.  Unfortunately, I was one the those "lucky" people that got the epidural that didn't work.  I felt relief for about 20 minutes, right after I had gotten it, but within an hour I was back to having horrible contraction pain.  They brought the anesthesia guy back in, and he gave me some medicine that should have helped, and if not, he was just going to replace the epidural.  Again, being the lucky person that I am... the medicine he gave me made me feel very lightheaded, I had ringing in my ears, I threw up, I was as white as a ghost (Kenton called me Casper), and my blood pressure elevated.  Meanwhile, I had a contraction that lasted about 3 minutes, and they couldn't find Ellie's heart rate AT ALL.  That was probably one of the scariest moments I've EVER experienced.  They paged an emergency to my room, and right away, a bunch of people came in to help in any way they could. 

After a few minutes, they found Ellie's heart rate, it was at a whopping 60 bpm (it should be anywhere between 120-160).  Her heart rate slowly started to get higher and higher, but she was again not responding well to contractions at all.  After a few minutes, my doctor decided it was best to go ahead and get Ellie out via c section.  I never in a million years, EVER thought I would have a c section, but like I said... God had a plan for us.  They rushed me back to the OR, and within just a few short minutes my doctor said "are you ready to meet your baby?" and at that moment my heart was bursting with joy.  "It's a girl!!!!" was the next thing my doctor said.  Kenton and I both just started laughing, we were sure we were having a boy.  We were both filled with so much love for our baby girl.  We fell in love instantly!!! It turned out that Ellie had her cord wrapped tightly around her neck, which is part of the reason she wasn't doing well during contractions.  Plus, she was faced up in the pelvis, instead of down.  Had I delivered naturally it would have been an ugly situation. 

I have to say, not finding out the sex of our baby, and being surprised is the coolest feeling EVER!!!!  There is no surprise as great as that!!  Even though labor was not at all what I expected, I am so thankful I have the most amazing and healthy baby girl. 

Ellie Kathleen Cornett was born on Wednesday April 13, 2011 at 2:15 pm.  She weighed 6 lbs 7 oz, 20 inches long.  My precious angel!!
